I am going to explain today everything you need to know about Freight Forwarding. 

Do you know? Freight Forwarding is basically known as NVOCC, that is, Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier. An NVOCC can be a single person or can be a completely renowned company with the goal of organizing shipments to get the goods and taking it to a market as the final point of distribution. 

You cannot say that a Freight Forwarding Agent is to move the goods but they are responsible for the logistics network. The carriers can use a range of shipping types, including ships, aircraft, buses, and railroads, and often use multiple modes for one shipment only. Similarly, when you think about International Shipping Agencies, they usually manage international shipments and have extensive experience in planning and handling customs paperwork and conducting foreign shipment related activities. 

Now, some of the information needs to be reviewed and cross-checked by forwarders, including commercial invoice, export declaration of the shipper, lading bill and other documents required by the carrier or country of sale, import, and transshipment. 



History Behind Freight Forwarding Agencies

One of the first Freight Forwarders, founded in 1836, was Thomas Meadows and Company Limited of London, England. Other than that, trade between Europe and North America grew, creating additional demand. In London, the first foreign freight forwarders were innkeepers who were kept and re-accelerated their hotel guests' personal effects. 

I hope you know that the original functionality of any forwarder was to arrange for carriage by contracting with various carriers. In forwarder responsibilities, it also includes advice on documentation and customs requirements in the country of destination. Aha! Some don't know that earlier but now you know the original duties and responsibilities of Freight Forwarding Agencies.
